About

Peace, my name is Adrienne.

I was born, raised, and still reside on occupied Waawiyaataanong land, also known as Detroit. I am the Founder, Lead Reiki Teacher, and Wellness Practitioner at Heal in the Waters Wellness. I am also a nonbinary, African, student of ongoing revolution.

My Lineage and Background

My reiki journey began in 2017 and I am a part of the lineages of Reiki Master Teacher, Adela Nieves Martinez (received attunements & training in levels 1, 2, & 3) and Kiersten Dekorn (received attunements and level 3 training). Currently I am an herbalist apprentice studying under Lottie Spady of Earthseed Detroit. I am also a Lukumi Aborisha, child of Yemonja, and student of mediumship. I have studied wellness modalities and energy work since 2014 and have been organizing for revolution since 2012.

Current Work

Feedom Freedom Growers (Political Edu, Organizing & Wellness)

My wellness, political education, and organizing life-work are all in partnership with Feedom Freedom Growers (FFG) on Detroit’s east side. My life-work is focused on the intentional merger of revolution and wellness. The results from the material actions in my work speak most loudly through my current work as the founder of the Free Reiki Clinic housed at FFG. The clinic creates opportunity for Detroiter’s to also be trained to become Reiki practitioners for free or low cost. This ensures they can use energetic healing to serve themselves and their respective neighborhoods in sufficient ways. I also help lead the political education programming development at FFG and work to engage the people and my comrades in praxis to create neighborhood based organizing to ensure communal sufficiency.

Writings (Newsletter Coming: June 2024)

I am a writer whose work aims to help colonized people globally recognize our inherent collective power on the path of revolution, outside of capitalist and imperialist systems. My writing delves into the concept of power by defining phenomena and our current societal conditions while simultaneously challenging or uplifting the approaches we take to shift those conditions.
My ancestors, spirit guides, elders, theoretical evidence, and strategy, informs every approach I take with my comrades and the people.

What I Strive to Do...

By merging wellness and revolution I strive to create space for the African Diaspora to build intentional, informed, and strategically organized futures for the continuous healing, safety, and revolution for colonized people globally. In the words of Peoples Program in Oakland: “Free the People! Free the Land!”

What I Understand...

I understand the systems of capitalism and imperialism are root causes behind communities seeking healing at high disproportionate rates and that this reality is exasperated due to several reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Extreme commodification of material needs and wellness practices which limits our collective access and right to thrive. we must shift material conditions.
  • Holistic depletion of energy necessary to meet material needs as we are trapped in capitalist cycles.
  • Individualistic prioritization of self-care over communal care.

What I Believe...

One. I believe the people actually have the power to shift the current material conditions, outside of electoral politics or making demands of an empire that has no allegiance to us. I believe our allegiance should be to each other.

Two. I believe in Peoples Programs, especially those centering communal energetic healing modalities, as a tactic to bring the people into intentional revolutionary organizing. It is through meeting the material and energetic needs of the people that we can build trust, relationship, and open their capacity for them to be interested in and have the energy to engage in revolution with us.

Three. I believe revolution is possible when we prioritize decommodified communal wellness, therefore allowing for energetic replenishing, focus, alignment, connection with ancestors, the embodiment of personal & collective power, and accessible support to move through capitalist and imperialist trauma.

Four. I believe consistent and accessible communal wellness, a product of ongoing revolution, will not be sustainable until capitalism itself is dismantled and the implementation of alternative systems begins and is ongoing.

Five. I believe wellness must simultaneously exist with intentional organizing to shift material conditions by meeting collective material and holistic needs (food, housing, water, education, energetic needs, etc). This will help cease the capitalist cyclical harm that brings us to seek healing at disproportionate rates, as healing practices and sessions alone cannot fix this.

Six. I believe our organizing should involve political education, theoretical evidence, and ideological informed strategy.

Seven. I believe we should ask ourselves everyday “How do we move towards decommodifying our organizing & shift towards organizing encompassing the notion of taking care of each other from our neighborhood homes and not 9-5 offices?”

My Call to You...

This is a call for practitioners to not only develop and transform their ideologies through political education but to commit to organizing with their communities and within their practices, preferably amongst a collective, to ensure accessibility & decommodification of their offerings.

This is a call for those who engage with my offerings to engage in political education and get organized through finding a political home and some folks to struggle with!
